It’s never easy to express ourselves in times of tragic events, and a cartoon may seem like an insensitive medium. But the simple fact is that every year, there are many tragedies like the one at Sabarimala. Sometimes there is a stampede for free clothes at an ashram somewhere, or the collapse of a rain shelter causes people to run for their lives. People die. And (ir)responsible people get away. I don’t know who is responsible for the tragedy at Sabarimala but what I know is there are more accidents waiting to happen as long as we depend on “jugaad” to make things work.
And life will continue to cost less than a sack of onions.

Brilliant.
The Dewaswanom board is notorious for the influence it wields. It is time to put an end to the nonsense that Sabrimala has become. The hypocrisy is amazing.
0) The eco-tourism master plan for the Periyar Tiger reserve raised serious questions about the route and was penned way back in 1999. I wish somebody in the Kerala government had read that.
1) The Valaka - is a massive heap of burning camphor - this is probably the worst kept secret. IndiaTV are probably the only folks who think it's divine intervention
2) The temple - does not allow women who are pre menopause to enter the temple. How discriminatory is that?
3) The eColi count - in the pampa river - during peak season - is near infinite - what about the wildlife and human life that has to survive on the river down-stream?
4) Kumily is India's worst tourism disaster zone - whether it be the boat tragedies of Periyar Tiger Reserve or the Sabrimala season.
5) Nothing against the Ayyappa - just upset with the commodification of the entire pilgrimage for the benefit of a few with no cash flows being channeled in for either conservation or infrastructure.
