Vijayendra Mohanty asks:
Did Raj comics' Nagraj etc. come first or did Diamond comics' Fauladi Singh come first? I think it was Fauladi Singh but am doubtful

I would be grateful if you could clarify the matter and restore me to everyday sanity. Leave a comment to the post in question at
http://www.mypajama.com/blog/2006/05/01/indias-first-superhero/

Please respond to him ASAP or he will go mad!!!!!!!

I hate meetings, they make me miss out on the 1st spot when I get the chance.

Me 3rd :-(

As to the question, there is absolutely no doubt at all. Obviously Fauladi Singh came first. Raj Comics was a relatively late entrant to the scene!

And btw, tcp, this post reads like the request shows on Vividh Bharati (Radio): "Jhumjri Talaiyya se chunnu munnu aur unke mummy papa likhte hain ki..."(Chunnu munnu and their mom-dad write in from Jhumri Taliyya that...)!!!

Certainly the Fauladi Singh was first. His assistent Robots remind you of star-wars movie. It was published soon after diamond comics start bublishing Rajan Eqbala and Motu Patlu detective series along with the famous chacha chaudhari. Nagraj came very late. There was some other comics like Manoj comics and Chitra comics, Goversons comics (from MadhuMushkan publication) in between but could not survive long. Also do you know There were five Asterisk publshed in HINDI by Goversons comics

By the way I hate these comice.. Cheap comics and good publshity by Diamond comics was one reason Indrajal could not survived. Hate them hate them hate them.

Diamond comics even in those days, had awesome writers (who, I always felt, were stuck with mediocre artists). Much later, around the time when Raj Comics was doing their overall redo, they started a unique series featuring the hero duo: Agnipitra and Abhay.

Sometimes I wish Diamond comics and Raj Comics would go back to their old days. I am sure everyone wishes that all the time. The list of characters gone and dropped is saddening.

Raj had Saptashakti Dhaarak Gojo and also one called Prachandaa.

Point however: Good comics' following is almost never swayed by ad campaigns. We are not as numb as that yet. :)

Diamond presented characters in India, that were Indian and lived in a world we lived in.

Maybe that's why Indrajaal died out.

But it didn't. Dit it? !!!

Fifth , man iam going down . have to catch up . Indrajal comics was ( or should i say say 'is' ) the best . the only thing i liked about diamond comics was their James Bond series which was also stopped a long while ago.

@cloudy: no :-( No :-( NOOOOOOOOOOOOO X(X(X(
@obiwan: I also hate meetings but I am doing a lot of them. And how can you say "absolutely no doubt". I know your response has shaant-bheemed Vijayendra, but I demand evidence. Good old farmaish (request) programs. Especially the Fauji Jawano ke liye ;-) 7 PM on Vividh Bharati
@indianmalang: WE HATE MEETINGS WE HATE MEETINGS!!!!!!!!!!!
@shashi: You have the wrong number, you have the wrong number (sing in the tune of "what is your phone number what is your pager number"
@vijay: Welcome
@bharath: Bahadur is your favourite?
@johnny hotwire: Ah..another expert speaks up.
@vijay: I told you, the real experts are out there on TCP :) Indrajal died because reading has become less important and comics aren't "cool". Also responsible are our elders. They kinda told us that we are grown up, now stop reading comics. But we didn't listen.
@sherlock: your fasterupload option seems to be working for sunshine. I havent tried it out. Internet issues.
@sunshine: yeah. I am 6th. Who cares about the question. Hmmph!!
@chatterbai: Put up one photo..but more coming up
@dalals: Only raddi shops :-( But TCP isnt going away so please keep visiting. And you are new here..so welcome :-)

I m 36 yrs now and still have fascination for Indrajal comics. Mainly Phantom, mandrake octagon series and flash gordon. Then Chustram-Sustram of madhu muskan. Daaku paan singh, Mundu kyaluram.

I still sometime takeout my collection and enjoy them with my kids.

Fauladi Singh was much older and ahead of the times.

The first Fauladi Singh comic' Fauladi Singh aur Lauh Manav' was published around 1978. Initial writer was different and then came Rajeev, who along with Jugal Kishore, made it a great sci fi series.

I own more than 50 comics of this series.
