Yesterday, this blog was seen on the landing page of dnaindia.com for all the wrong reasons, i.e. for that "little bit" I wrote about Sachin Tendulkar. Wrong reasons because that's not what TCP is about but I won't complain. Hope in the process, some grownups found their childhood lurking around here in the form of these wonderful comics. If any of see this, please drop a reply. It will go a long way in proving that our mainstream media is doing more than covering politics, corruption, sports and page 3 :-)
So this is the ZERO of "2, 1, 0" and it's time to tell you what this big FIRST that I am talking about is. But before that answer the following questions (although I doubt you would be seeing this because the characters below in BOLD RED do their bit to draw attention)
Q. FIRST INDIAN WOMAN who got to Mount Everest?
A: Bachendri Pal
Q. FIRST INDIAN WOMAN pilot?
A. Sarla Thakur
Q. FIRST INDIAN WOMAN swimmer across the channel?
A. Bula Choudhury
FIRST WOMAN CONTRIBUTOR ON TCP???? Why is this such a big deal? Because TCP, like many other men, thought that girls don't have much to do with these comics. First, the siblings and cloudy and a few others blew away the "only-boys-read-indrajal" myth (in my head atleast) and now we have a woman contributor. Yes. Scanned by a woman :-)
From my east facing hotel room at 7:10 AM with the sun shining happily into my room, I am happy to present to all of you: SUNSHINE. Yes. SUNSHINE is our FIRST WOMAN CONTRIBUTOR. Thanks Sunshine and looking forward to more from you :-)
Apologies if you expected something else, but this is very big for TCP. Once again, thanks to Misraji, Johnny Hotwire, orejeevan and desiguru among others because your efforts have inspired Sunshine big time. Here it is: Kerry Drake and The Weird Wills!!!!PAGE 1 PAGE 2 PAGE 3 PAGE 4

Petition
Sunshine brought this to my attention, a petition for Lee Falk and the site says:
"Mr. Falk deserves some kind of lasting recognition in his hometown of St. Louis. These signatures from fans around the world agree with that sentiment. His characters, especially the Phantom, endure to this day with a global following and he is recognized by the comic industry as one of the icons of comic book pop culture. So let the voice of the fans be heard! Mr. Falk should get his Star on his hometown Walk of Fame".
Only 296 people have signed so far (ouch). Could we do our bit to give some momentum to this petition? It's the least TCP could do. Also try to NOT mention TCP or provide any link. Don't want unnecessary attention :-) Hope you get the drift.
Please visit The Lee Falk Recognition petition

I got it.. I got it.. I got it..
Finally.. I AM NO 1!!!
HURRAY !!!
Just to celebrate my achievement, I will post the 2nd comment as well !!
and the 3rd !!
:D:D
In my exhuberance at posting the 1st comment, I forgot to congratulate SUNSHINE..
Great to see another male bastion broken.. :D
Hoping to see many more comics contributed by women on TCP..
I'm 2nd (Like Obiwan wd say - Technically ;-) )
Shubham: Thank you. (Do you have to take the 2nd and 3rd and 4th place as well.. :))
Looks like TCP did his bit for the Women's Day that just went by!
Hey - It was really good to see you on DNA!
4th by TCP's count, 3rd by mine! :-) I coul actually have made it to 1st this time, but didn't log on for a couple of hours due to work. Kyoooooon????
Sunshine: Congrats. You've breached the glass ceiling :-)
Idea for TCP happy birday (April 17) - Each of us scans an Indrajal(at least 1) and mails it to TCP on that day. And pls don't tell me - "we don't have Indrajal, or scanners(my excuse actually), cos where there's a will, I want to be present in it! oops, wrong quote, I mean where there's a will, there's a way! And as Bhiku Mhatre told Satya - "Jo Karna hai, woh karna hai"
how abt 365 comments on the 1st anniversary post..
M 5th i suppose. About TCP's coming B'day. I suppose we do have a reason to celebrate. Gud going ... :-)
6th again. A bit consistent on this spot it seems.
Thanks Obi :)
Way to go Sunshine!! And yes, Celebrations are definitely in order!!
Its 301 petitions after I signed just now :-)
@TCP: - Which Email address do we send the scanned comics?
that's the third consecutive time i came in in the morning, checked TCP, found a new comic and saw 14 comments on it! It's like TCP's star value - u know how stars like amitabh or rajnikanth (or say even mithunda :P) know that no matter what, their movie will make X amount of money...so here's the 15th, just to break that jinx :D
PS: congrats to sunshine - i guess it would have been cooler if Lee Falk had a female (super)hero and this comic were about her!
PPS: signed the petition.
wow!! That's a lot of activity!
@Sunshine, welcome to TCP, and *gosh* I remember really thinking that only boys read Indrajal, must have been 8-9 years old! Isn't it amazing, how early the sense of gender comes in!
And Lee Falk is from St.Louis!! I didn't know!! I lived there for 2 years!
Don't know how to count my post..but think I made it in the top ten.
Thank You Sunshine :)
And congratulations!
Amazing how boys think everything is their bastion, huh?
And TCP, I think your FIRST woman READER was nuttee... who introduced me to your site, by the way.
Fantastic response. Just what I hoped for. There you go Sunshine :-)
@shubham: Remember that only #1 counts. If you miss the 1st on the next comic, dont claim that since you posted 1, 2 and 3 on this comic, technically you should be joint 1st. { yahoo icon >:P } and 365 comments - thooooooda zyada hai. Blogger will shut us down for excessive commenting lol. Just keep visiting yaar
@chatterbai :-) : Yes if you had told me 15 days ago, I would have made more noise about it. The DNA thing was cool, but that was a horribly written unstructured article that got linked. I am sure many people wont visit again. { yahoo icon :P } I wish someone linked my Rang De Basanti review, the first ever review of the movie anywhere in the world.
@obi wan: Now you are starting your own counting system? Aur sound effect nahi diya glass ceiling tootne ka?
@samit and horizon: Depends on what counting system you are using
@kiddo: there you are. FYI everyone, this one reads only comments. ZEEEERO interest in comics.
@indianmalang: my email id is not published but it shouldnt be hard to guess if you see the profile
@sketchy: I am ok with Mithunda...sacchi
@universal speck: Sahi na? Never imagined that girls read these comics. They always seemed to grow up from tinkle/champak to Mills & Boon. I guess some were different and what's more, they still read comics :-) First finalize counting system then you find out.
@cloudy: There was a vandana (i think a guy) and a suniti (yeah woman surely)... and rs/siblings rushed in just after this. nuttee too around the same time. Is this nutteenath the livejournal blogger who likes Hzz?
@All: The 1 year idea of sending a comic is a great idea, but it is impossible for me to post it. Zyada load mat lo. Do what you can.
I am glad you took the FIRST WOMAN CONTRIBUTOR thing as importantly as I did.
Thanks to Misraji and Johnny hotwire, this baby's still got some juice to keep it runnin'. I think I should start acknowledging who contributed the comic because it seems to look like I am doing all the scanning. I am not. Most of what you see is by Misraji and Johnny.
And sign that petition please :-)
@TCP. i signed the petition! Here is mine...I will try later tonight to email you but just in case, here is mine. indianmalang@gmail.com
If it is ok.. shoot me an email so that I know it is you and I will send some indrajaal.
IM
Sunshine, tussi great ho, I love you.
nuttee - that's the one. Likes not only Hzz, but all animals :)
Just Curious does anyone has all the parts of the following comic:
"Phantom - Curse of The Kimberly Diamonds"!
I believe it is a 2 part story! Not sure though!
Anyone...anyone...anyone...!
And TCP, gotta update your 'Comics scanned by' list, right?
Same story....Checked TCP before sleeping last night, there was nothing. Woke up this morning to find 22 comments against the new comic. (If I plan to regain the top spot, I will have to set an alarm for 1 AM or so).
Anyway, congrats TCP & sunshine, on the historic feat.
As for the result of the Mumbai test, the less said the better. (I am reminded of Alesia - Where Vercingetorix surrendered to Caesar (Asterix and the cheiftain's shied). If someone were to ask me 'where is Mumbai' or 'what is wankhade', My response would be a bitter 'What Mumbai? There is no such thing/place as wankhade and that's that'.
And TCP, I am with you on Sachin. Had Kaif played in his place, we might have salvaged a draw at least.
Ya Right Net Astrix!!!
Congratulate Sunshine keep it up.
Just wanted to bring one request to everybody who is scannig comics, Can you scan in 300 DPI than resize it for TCP, in that way we will have good quality scan for archive purpose and exchange CD or DVD.
May be after few years when printer and printing are cheap or I am rich enough would like to print them all and good quality scan will really help.
TCP can you add few line in your scanning specification.
I am scanning all mine will start sending it again soon.
Hey TCP...
Nice to see so many Indrajal and Phantom enthusiasts.......
I came across this wonderful blog of your`s a in Feb.....since then have been a silent spectator.....grabbing all the comics posted by you.......guess its time for me to start contributing........will try to get my comics scanned this weekend...
Lovely work and great response from so many of us.....really great to see....
@Kiddo,Sketchy,Universal speck, cloudy,TCP,Motku,net-asterix,johnny hotwire: Thank you so much! :-)I was actually thinking people were going to kick TCP's butt for making 'the 1st woman contributor' such a big deal. But I think I was wrong.
@Cloudy: I know! Boys!! :)
@indianmalang,Obiwan,Sketchy: Thank you for signing the petition. Pls spread the word.
i never liked indrajal mandrake or phantom but read amar chitra katha.
but i love u all showing ur enthu on the above cherishing ur childhood memories and rushing to b first to comment. With evryone hurrying up to grow up use slang pretend to know all be all, this is a pleasant place where innocence looks preserved...almost emanates fragrance of fresh flowers.Good going keep going!
@motku: yeah, I love you too :-) cartoon
@cloudy: ok..now I know how you got here. Yes, did you notice the smiley there? between Orejeevan and TCP? It's been there for a week since I announced the COUNTDOWN. Will keep it that way for a couple of more days in the hope that you will read this comment and check back on the page
@netasterix: How apt that you compare the test with the Asterix comic :-) And Kaif can't replace Tendulkar and would definitely not have saved the match, yet, he deserves a longer stint to prove himself. See how you irritated indianmalang. He just does not like a single word spoken against tendlya ;-)
@indianmalang: mazaak kar raha hoon. I like him too. But I don't have the reputation of being merciful either (although it doesn't matter)
@Johnny Hotwire: Yes that's a good idea. I think I scan at 300dpi (thats the default)
@Phantom: You have some nerve to take such a name grrrrrrrrrrrrrr :-) Keep visiting and bach ke rehna!!!
@Sunshine: Remember what I told you about steel? Looks like everyone guessed and stayed put hehe
@Anon (would love to see a name): Thanks :-) I have to go find out who started this first comment thing..hmm
Cute :-)
